Capiz shells are naturally translucent pearl color and come from an ocean shellfish similar to a clam. We import these shells from the tropical paradise island of Java, Indonesia. The artisans carving these exquisite shells live on the south coast of Java in a small village called Teluk Penyu (Turtle Bay), part of the Indian Ocean. Divers search shallow waters just off the coast looking for just the right shells to make the earrings. Only empty shells are harvested. The small dia. Capiz shells are hand-dyed HOT PINK and the large dia. Capiz shells are hand-dyed PURPLE. We have attached the shells to 100% Sterling Silver (0.925 fine) Bali style ear wires.
